Our series, Chloe Rose, is named after our teen heroine, Chloe Rose. Every day, all around the world there are real life teen heroines and heroes living ordinarily extraordinary lives. We dedicate this page to these teens…the daring advocates and creative adventurers whose lives and actions create ripples of peace and necessary change.
Yusra Mardini, Olympic Hopeful
Our first real life heroine is 18-year-old Syrian refugee Yusra Mardini. She trekked across Turkey with her sister and other refugees. Together they were crossing the sea to Lesbos, Greece when the dinghy stopped moving. Instead of giving up, Yusra, her sister, and a man jumped into the water and swam for three hours behind the boat, pushing it to safety. They saved not only themselves, but 20 other refugees. Now in Berlin, Yusra is training for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Yusra hopes to qualify to be part of the Refugee Olympic Athletes (ROA) team.
